Episode 2: For the Women Who Have Been Called Difficult

Episode 2 of the Your 9-to-Bloom Bestie podcast is here! Today’s episode is for women who have been called difficult and recovering people pleasers because I know firsthand how tough it is to give yourself permission to exist in a way society doesn’t always make space for. Whether you’ve been called difficult for setting boundaries, addressing something others want to sweep under the rug, or for taking control of your reproductive journey/health, this one’s for you.

I am a recovering people who has been called emotional, feisty and difficult at different points in my life which is why I titled today’s episode “For the Women Who Have Been Called Difficult.” I see in this book how this idea that women need to be easy to manage, easy to date, easy to lure in through a trap has been prevalent…for a very long time. Like women are expected to be so docile and follow all the rules and I see how these women were basically groomed in some kind of way to accept the status quo. And for some of them, it actually ended with them losing their lives.

As someone who’s regurgitated toxic ideology about how women are supposed to carry ourselves, I can see how easy it is for us to succumb to [the idea of] we think something is completely harmless, whether it’s a person, place or thing, even though there’s something that doesn’t quite feel right about it…and we’re basically told to ignore our instincts…
