4 Reasons Why Wearing Prints During Winter Gives Your Outfits Personality

We’re seeing a resurgence of prints dominating fashion again, but did they ever leave? I know some people resonated with the “clean girl” aesthetic where outfits felt effortless, but I think style is meant to be as fun as we want it to be. Also, that trend’s a little more nuanced than some may think, but we’ll talk about it a little later. For now, let’s focus on why prints are a great way to add personality to your winter outfits.

1. They can add the illusion of texture to any outfit.

I used to play it safe when it comes to texture in an outfit, but now I’m finding it’s a fun way to add contrast to whatever you’re wearing. For example, let’s say you know you want to start with a simple monochromatic base like black. You can tuck a long sleeved top into a pair black pants and leave it at that.

But, you can also take it a step further and add the illusion of texture via a fun print. I’m personally a fan of polka dot, stripes and anything animal-inspired, but you may love florals, houndstooth or gingham.

It’s not necessarily about what you choose, but how you wear it!

2. No two prints are always the same.

If you’re feeling daring, you can absolutely mix prints together. But, don’t be alarmed if can’t always find the same colorways or patterns. Unless you’re buying from the same brand, everyone’s interpretation of leopard or cheetah print won’t be the same. Some people even refer to them interchangeably. But that’s what makes wearing prints fun!

3. They can add a pop of color to a basic palette.

Feeling like your outfit’s a little too monochromatic and need a change? Prints are your best friend when it comes to this. While I didn’t stray too far away from my outfit’s overall palette, the cream base of the “skirt,” still adds a different color to it. The hilarious thing about this look is that the skirt is actually a dress from ASTR the Label (on sale!).

I wanted to wear it over the outfit, but the sweetheart neckline of my top made it look awkward to me). That’s the beautiful thing about style though. You can shop your closet and find new ways to reimagine what you already own, especially if it includes a fun print.

4. They’re expressive in all the right ways.

Last but not least, prints are a great way to express your personality or mood via your style. But, I’m going to say something a little contrarian. Darker clothes or prints don’t have to mean you’re feeling moody. I personally wear them when I’m feeling confident because I think black is a beautiful color. Feel free to take that how you want.
