The Top Girl’s Girl Podcasts to Share in the Group Chat

You know what I’ve been doing lately? I’ve been diving into a ton of audio & visual podcasts that feel like the kind of things you’d share in your group chat with your best friends. From therapist-backed POVs to everyday women, it’s been nice to give myself a break from hearing chatter from social media or limiting beliefs I’m working hard to negate. For once, I’ve been actively listening and snickering when something’s funny. Sometimes I even rewind an “I can’t believe she just said that” part that tickles the right part of my brain.

Whether it’s encouragement that reminds you that life’s not over because you’ve experienced losses or conversations that addresses your favorite TV series, these podcasts have been inside of my saving grace satchel. I get to reach for them whenever I want and it’s one of the best feelings I’ve had in a long time. Okay, that’s an exaggeration, but you get the point. It’s a privilege to hear others’ perspective that may or may not mirror my own without being upset about it.

Wait, what are you listening to?

Now here comes the fun part. I’ve been listening to a ton of podcasts that have girl’s girl written all over them because they’re hosted by some pretty amazing women. I’m talking about moms, creatives, and more. In case you’re wondering, of course I’m highlighting black women’s voices! So without further ado, here’s the podcasts I think should be added to your library:

What’s not to love about Keke Palmer? She’s brilliant, witty, and has a way of making her guests feel comfortable as they sit across from her. With her podcast Baby, This is Keke Palmer, she’s the most gracious, patient and hilarious host who knows how to get the tea without making a mess.

While it’s hard to pick my favorite episode, I truly enjoyed her conversations with actress Danielle Brooks and actor Marlon Wayans.

If you started singing, “She’s so lucky, she’s a star,” a la Britney Spears, you’re my kind of person. However, there’s no sad tunes being played here. Instead, Les Alfred shares how it’s possible to see how fortunate we are. Though life may serve us “caviar with BS,” you’ll find yourself hearing how guests were able to turn lemons into lemonade on She’s So Lucky.

Hosted by influencer Mattie James, The Everyday MAGIC Podcast is a reminder to add a little magic to your daily life. Sometimes we’re so busy that we miss what’s already there, but Mattie’s been there and done that. To be frank, she’s still learning how to pivot as life ebbs and flows; hence why her advice feels fresh.

As a wife and mom aside from running a busy empire, she’s gone through the woes of trying to build the “perfect” life and wants to help you avoid it. Plus, she has some amazing organizational tips for the girls who just can’t seem to keep up with anything. You can’t see me right now, but I’m giving myself a hard side eye.

Until I’m able to make it back to therapy, this podcast has been getting me through a lot. Therapy for Black Girls covers things that anyone may be facing, but speaks the language of Black girls and women who may feel overlooked. You know because somehow the world thinks we’re unbreakable and can handle anything with a smile on our faces. It’s the equivalent of me telling the therapist I can’t wait to get back to, “I may be going through it, but my outfit isn’t,” only for her to give me a sad smile.

So if you’re dealing with everything from grief to trying to break free from overperforming, this podcast’s for you.

Marjon Carlos is a cultural force to be reckoned with for several reasons. Not only has she written for publications like Vogue and Essence, she lends her expertise to brands as a consultant. Now, she’s sharing her thoughts about everything from The Real Housewives franchise to relationships on Your Favorite Auntie.

Stemming from an IGTV series that gained traction, this podcast is for those who love unfiltered opinions about pop culture and life. Though she doesn’t shy away from the term “Auntie,” Marjon’s cadence also comes across like conversations you wish you’d have with your big sister if you had one.

Last but not least, something special is brewing and it has a podcast rebrand written all over it! What started off as a joke about restarting my life turned into me getting serious about rebranding my podcast.

Think of Your 9-to-Bloom Bestie as conversations with your 9-5 corporate best friend (that’s me) who’s learning some much needed lessons now that she’s currently not a part of team #WFH life anymore. Whether it’s grieving over unexpected loss or learning about a Black-owned brand founder’s journey, Your 9-to-Bloom Bestie will be a must-listen once Season 2 drops!
