Brown Sugar Babe’s Fragrance & Friendship Event Gave Black Women a Space to Exhale
From layoffs to the implication Black women are still expected to over-perform, it can be hard to find a moment to catch our breaths. But, black-owned brand Brown Sugar Babe recently provided a safe space for us to do that with its Friendship & Fragrance event in Atlanta.
Intimate Details
Guests were ushered into a gorgeous entryway that was draped in a gorgeous cream fabric on both sides (see left). Not only did it indicate we were stepping into a luxurious space, but the energy was also calm and inviting.
The first activation we visited was the gifting suite where we received a goodie bag along with comfy slippers (see right). I’d actually brought a pair of my own slippers, so I was thoroughly surprised to receive this cozy gift.
After that, the space opened up a little more to reveal a gorgeous construction with “Time to Exhale” greeting attendees. Flanked by gorgeous bouquets, it featured various Brown Sugar Fragrances that guests were allowed to choose. While there were only two options to try based on a list of fragrance names, I can genuinely say an air of respect for the brand and staff were present because no one tried to grab anything off the shelves without consent.
I personally chose the scents “Marry Me,” a customer favorite, and “Cherry Bomb.”
Scent Details for Marry Me:
Top: The first notes you smell
Champagne, Freesia, Black Currant
Heart: The heart of the perfume
Nectarine, Pink Praline, Jasmine, Damask Rose, Orange Blossom

Scent Details for Cherry Bomb:

Inside the Event
Aside from the gorgeous details, Brown Sugar Babes’ Fragrance & Friendship event was comprised of a curated panel followed by a special celebrity performance. Tai Beauchamp, award-winning TV Host, Producer and Entrepreneur, hosted a panel that featured media mavens Asia Milia Ware (Beauty Editor at The Cut) and Blake Newby (TV Personality and Digital Content Creator & Brand Consultant) who also happen to be besties IRL (in real life). They chatted about the importance of friendship, making space for different chapters in life, wellness practices and debuted a new Brown Sugar Babe collection.

Shortly after the panel discussion ended, a special performance by R&B singer Tank performed hits like “Maybe I Deserve” and “Please Don’t Go.” His charismatic and hilarious personality was shown in between each song, plus he was personable with guests after the event ended. And guess what? Those in attendance continued being respectful of his space! Talk about a curated moment that everyone understood the magnitude of.
Overall, Brown Sugar Babe’s Fragrance & Friendships event served as the perfect reminder to lean into community. Beautiful friendships were on display and I even saw a familiar face from Bea Dixon’s book launch party in January! Not only that, but I connected with a few women nearby during “I see you” moments.
It was affirming and soul soothing which confirms the world is still full of beautiful souls who know how to commune together.
